Park Hyatt Aviara Resort & Spa – Carlsbad, CA

Last week I was spoiled in the 75 degree weather while the rest of America was facing a blizzard.  (Don’t get too mad, it was cloudy with a chance of meatballs inside the ballroom)

The Park Hyatt Aviara is just outside San Diego in the small town of Carlsbad.  This laid back surfer town has lots to do.  I’d love to be here with about 3 days of nothing to do.

I only had one free day to go check out the locals.  My buddy Joel and I had some fun.  After dinner with a client… I got to check out the downtown Carlsbad scene.  And boy was it a scene!  Any military town gets rowdy, but a CA military town can? X that by 4.  It was cool though.  We met some cool people.  Young soldiers either just returning from duty or just going into basic.  We started out on the beach, only because it was January and I had to say I chilled on the beach in January.  (now you can be jealous)  Then, we walked over to the Pizza Port.  The Pizza Port in downtown Carlsbad is a MUST visit for great beer.  Yes, they have pizza and it looks awesome (we had already eaten) but this place is known for its beer.  For real, go here if you are ever in Carlsbad.  We had five people recommend it to us before we said, “ok we must visit”  They brew their own beer inside and have won awards all over the country for their microbrews.  We walked in and the beer line was out the door.  Its a great local gem.  Families are all hanging out and eating pizza, kids and all.  But yes, GO HERE.

Looking for good local seafood?  Try Jay’s Gourmet Seafood in Carlsbad.  Try the Jay’s Combo!  Every kind of local seafood you can think of on pasta.  I just picked off the seafood and called it a meal.  Good eatin’!

Another spot we visited was The Coyote Bar & Grill which had live music and seemed to be “the spot”.  It turned out to be a younger crowd after about 10pm.  All the bars around the area have what the locals call “Train Beers”  and its quite the deal.  Every 15 minutes or so, the Amtrak rolls through and a bells rings.  When the bell rings, beers are 25 cents.  So if that tells you anything about the rukus in the area.  And while I mention the train, BE WARNED, Holey crap that train is moving!  You better not be anywhere near those tracks!  It comes blowing through about 75 or 80 mph!  All night long I couldnt get over the fact how fast it was going.  Carlsbad is a small close quarters town, so to see a train blow through there at that speed just blows my mind.  So be careful.

Cant wait to be back out here soon!

So heres the post,
